    Our Mission

It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for Norfolk residents, to increase involvement in activities that better our community and to strengthen community spirit.

    Our History

NOVA (Norfolk Organization for Various Activities) was formed in the Spring of 1974. The first meeting consisted of six women who felt a common need for an organization that would provide a meeting ground for sharing interests, talents and ideas. During that time period, the local (and national) economy was booming and companies were relocating employees at a rapid rate all over the country. Many families moved to Norfolk at that time. Most of these families had no local family or friends for support so the need for an organization like this was great. By the following Fall, NOVA boasted over 150 families as members. Its first attempt at a community activity, a Candidates Night, attracted over 500 people.

Since its inception, NOVA evolved into an organization that provides both social and service-oriented opportunities for every resident. NOVA was incorporated in 1976 as a non-profit organization. As is done in the present, many on-going fund-raisers were created, with the funds providing continuing support for many worthwhile causes and organizations in town. The annual "Christmas Boutique and International Luncheon" was a popular event which had grown from a small display of handicraft items to one of the largest and finest holiday events in the area.

NOVA fulfilled the intentions of its founders which was to develop fellowship and acquaintance among the residents of Norfolk and to encourage their participation in the civic and social activities of their community. In the early 90's, members wanted the name to reflect more purpose than just the social aspect of the group. The name was changed to the Norfolk Community League.

    Our Commitment

The Norfolk Community League exists to bring the Norfolk community together to raise funds and foster the spirit of the town we live in through a variety of social, family-based and fundraising activities. Our primary initiative is fundraising in order to raise vital funds to disburse back into the community through our annual community assistance grant process. In 2017, the NCL disbursed over $31,000 back into local organizations, programs and educational needs.
